Hugh Edwin Blanc was educated at St. Mary’s College, Port of Spain, from which he graduated in 1928, having obtained the Higher School Certificate of the Oxford and Cambridge Joint Examination Board.

Mr. Blanc joined the law firm of M. Hamel Smith & Co. in 1928 and served with that firm as Articled Clerk (Law Student) to one of the Senior Partners. He passed his final Law Examination in November 1932 and was admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago in May 1933. Mr. Blanc was appointed a Notary Public in November 1938. He continued in the employment of M. Hamel Smith & Co. until July 31st, 1944, when he and Rene Joseph Pollonais both left that firm to found and establish the law firm of Pollonais & Blanc. Mr. Blanc was also enrolled as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom in October 1954.

Mr. Pollonais and Mr. Blanc carried on the business of Pollonais & Blanc as its Senior Partners until Mr. Blanc retired from the partnership on December 31st, 1970 to take up duties as Consultant Solicitor to the firm, which post he held until December 31st, 1971.

Mr. Blanc was an able Solicitor with considerable experience in the fields of Property Law, Trusts and Corporative work and held directorship in a number of companies. He was a person of integrity and occupied a high standing in the profession.
